Alexander McQueen has a new campaign out and we have to talk. Now, there is a video and then there are images. I have to say, the video is so much better than the images.
Not from London, but it’s giving you London vibes. And according to the press release, the campaign captures the renegade glamour of city’s youth. Diverse characters navigating concrete banks and sprawling streets seeking its primal pleasures.
As I said, the video is good, but then you see the pictures and it’s not giving the same energy. This does not look like two guys looking for primal pleasure. It looks like two fashion students visiting grandma.
The problem is that you’re going to see these pictures more than you’re going to see the video. Unfortunately, the energy is not the same, but I do have to say one thing. For the campaign, they did choose some of the better pieces from the collection.
Good example is this dress that I still wish hit the floor. I am shocked that they didn’t include this dress because in my opinion, this is the best dress of the whole collection. Overall, I think that there is a lot more that can be done with these clothes in a very cool way.
For me, this still does not scream McQueen. The jacket, for example, screams more Celine by Eddie Slimane. The thing is that a lot of these pieces can be used in such a creative way.
You have to come up with a great concept where the dress itself tells the story. Not this one, though. We cannot do a lot with this one.
This one, we’re fine with not using this one. The history of great campaigns for McQueen is there. Be it with Lee or Sarah, it is there.
But is there material to do a great campaign? 100%. Overall, I do think it’s a small step in the right direction. Am I crazy about the campaign? No.
But at this point, I’m still rooting for Sean.
